New Gym, New Teen opportunities!
Team Vancouver is developing year-round program for local Jewish teens.
Ok, it’s not exactly a new gym. But with a freshly re-sanded, re-finished, and re-painted floor, along with the brand new state-of-the-art double scoreboard, it might as well be brand new!
And all of these upgrades came just on time for the start of the new weekly JCC Maccabi Open Gym program taking place Tuesday nights from 6:15pm – 7:45pm.
The JCC Maccabi Open Gym invites all Jewish teen basketball players (of all genders) aged 12-17(ish) to come play, mingle, learn and train together. For any Jewish teens in the community wanting extra time to improve their game, this is for them! It will feature pick-up games each week, with guest coaches coming out to help guide, support or warm up participants.
The program is part of an expansion of programming for Team Vancouver-Galil, the local JCC Maccabi Delegation, which has already included a high-performance hockey camp, a team in the RBL Youth Basketball League and will also engage local volleyball players in the coming months. The new programming is aimed at engaging more local Jewish teens in high level athletic opportunities within the Jewish community. As well, to engage them in JCC Maccabi programming, regardless if they are able to attend the annual summer tournaments or not.
Team Vancouver-Galil will participate in the JCC Maccabi Games and Arts Fest in Orange County California next August. Athletes aged 13-16 as of July 31 will be welcome to participate in a number of team and individual sports. For those with more artistic cravings, the JCC Maccabi Arts Fest program, which runs in conjunction with the Games, will also he hosted in California this summer.
