DANA CAMIL HEWITT
Dana is an arts administrator and musicologist with extensive international experience in arts management and education. Before becoming Director of the Dena Wosk School of Performing Arts in 1999, she worked for the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and the Tel-Aviv University. She is also a freelance writer, specializing in arts and culture. She enjoys her work at the school and attempts to constantly create new and exciting courses for our talented students!
Jana began dancing at the age of 5 and has enjoyed a career spanning film, TV and stage. She has danced alongside Michael Buble, model Carmen Electra and taught Amanda Seyfried her dance moves for the feature film "Red Riding Hood". She has danced in various TV commercials and on the USA Network TV show "Psych" and "The Good Bye Girl". Jana has also enjoyed performing at Tokyo Disneyland, with Princess and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, as well as touring with the Canadian Concert Military Show Tour throughout Canada, Israel, Dubai, Egypt and Afghanistan. Jana loves teaching and is very much looking forward to another great year.
Catherine has been a dance educator for over 15 years with a BFA in Contemporary Dance from SFU, a Dance Diploma from Grant MacEwan College and Pilates instructor certification. A contemporary dancer with a strong classical and jazz background, she has been awarded numerous dance scholarships and bursaries. Catherine has danced professionally with companies such as Mascall Dance and UpBustle Dance Theatre. This summer, Catherine has been invited to perform as a guest dancer at the Fallensdager festival in Sweden, for her third appearance with UK-based danced company sirenscrossing.
Acro, Jazz, Ballet
Kirstyn König began dancing at the age of 9 in her native Calgary, where she trained at The School of Alberta Ballet, then the National Ballet School of Toronto and The Young Canadians School of Performing Arts. After graduating, she spent 3 years as a featured dancer and aerial artist onboard the Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. Her extensive repertoire includes everything from hip-hop and Latin dance, to partnering and circus aerial arts. Kirstyn is based in Vancouver and can be seen in various mediums, such as: music videos for Michael Buble, Dan Mangan, on TV/Film productions such as Once Upon A Time, Hellcats, This Means War, and in various live show productions throughout the city.
Jazz, Hip-Hop, Therapy-in-Motion
Erica is a much sought-after dancer and instructor. She started her dance training at the age of 3, and years later, went on to direct the University of Victoria Dance Company for two seasons. While completing her B.A. in Human and Social Development, she founded The Industry Dance Co, taught dance at Oak Bay High School and The Victoria Dance Connection, and created ‘Therapy In Motion’, a dance program for people with special needs. During the summers, Erica directs the dance program at Camp Danbee, an all-girls sports camp in Massachusetts. Some highlights in her dance career include: BC Lions’ ‘Felions’ dance team, The Canadian Video Game Awards 2012, SVS Style Dance Crew, featured choreographer for BC Children’s Hospital ‘For Children We Care’. Erica is part of the Full Force Co. dance company.
Tap, Hip Hop, Acro, Jazz
At the age of 4, Tessa started her dance training in Lethbridge, Alberta. She learned multiple styles of dance (jazz, contemporary, tap, hip hop, musical theatre and ballet) and practiced them for 13 years before moving to Vancouver to further her training. At only 22, Tessa has already danced with the Source Dance Company , the Lux Dance Company, worked for multiple artists, such as Marianas Trench and Nelly Furtado, as well as an appearance in the Nickelodeon film "Rags".
A native of Prince George, Marcy Mills started dancing at the age of 3 and hasn't looked back since. Upon graduating high school, Marcy moved down to Vancouver to audition and found herself a spot with the Source Dance Company. She continued to Toronto and trained extensively in contemporary, ballet and modern. Returning to Vancouver, she was offered a professional position with Lux Dance Company. Marcy loves spreading her vast knowledge of movement through her teachings and choreography and hopes to bring passion and joy to all of her students.
Jocelyn is an accomplished Musical Theatre performer, a graduate of UBC in Acting who also trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. With a long list of theatre and film credits under her belt, she is currently the lead in Theatre Under the Stars production of Legally Blond - The Musical. Jocelyn is also teaching our Musical Theatre Summer Camp and is looking forward to next year's Glee Club classes!
Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop
Hailing from Prince George, Keilani trained in ballet, contemporary, jazz, hip hop, theatre, and ballroom. She continues her creative exploration into the realms of acting for film and television. Keilani has performed live in many styles and venues internationally, was a main stage Performer with Disney Cruise Line Entertainment and appeared in numerous music videos and films. Her international training includes scholarships to New York and L.A. with Pushing Progress, Alvin Ailey, the EDGE Performing Arts Center and the Millennium Dance Complex. Keilani has been a teacher for numerous youth programs throughout the province since 2005 and has been featured as a guest workshop instructor.
RACHEL CLAMAN (RAHEL)
Rahel has been bellydancing professionally since 2003 and teaching since 2008. Her fluid, serpentine control, and engaging stage presence make her a highly sought after performer/instructor. Although trained in Egyptian Cabaret style under the guidance her mentor Narmaya, Rahel has worked with international stars from a wide array of styles. Rahel is both a certified bellydance instructor and a yoga teacher. She is the official dancer for gypsy fusion band Tambura Rasa and has opened for international music sensations Nickodemus and Shantel. Her film credits include "Hellcats", award winning short film, "Imago"; and her YouTube popularity has earned over 200,000 hits. She is deeply devoted to growth of her students, and is known for compassionate, creative and effective teaching methods for this beautiful, ancient art form… because everyone deserves bellydance!
