Gotta Sing! Gotta Dance!

If you are age 9 to 19 and love to sing, dance, act and perform, the Jewish Community Centre of Greater Vancouver is again pleased to offer Gotta Sing! Gotta Dance! Musical Theatre Camp.

For nearly three decades, our camps have helped thousands of young performers develop confidence, imagination and leadership skills while building lifelong friendships.

We welcome students from all backgrounds. There is no religious aspect to the camp curriculum.

The Camp, which is open to everyone, is very intensive and focuses on all aspects of musical theatre including vocal technique, the craft of acting, choreography, set construction, make-up, and costuming.  Participants will be divided into groups based on age and ability.   Fun, activities, energy, and creativity in an atmosphere designed to encourage talent, discipline, self-esteem, and co-operation.

For the past twenty-eight summers, Gotta Sing! Gotta Dance! has attracted hundreds of enthusiastic and talented participants – many of whom have gone on to successful careers in the performing arts – from throughout British Columbia and as far away as Whitehorse, Edmonton, Regina, Yorkton, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New York, California, Alabama, Colorado, Virginia, Texas, Austria, and Israel.

The director and creator of the program is PERRY EHRLICH, who received an Ovation Award and the Canadian Bar Association’s Community Service Award (acknowledging his tireless dedication to working with children and musical theatre). Perry, a composer, pianist, teacher, arranger, producer, adjudicator, writer, and talent coordinator, also directs ShowStoppers, the popular performance troupe. Check out www.theimpresario.ca.

Last year, Perry assembled an impressive Faculty of professional instructors (including directors, musicians, choreographers, and actors), each working in his or her respective field including musical directors WENDY BROSS STUART and ARIELLE BALANCE; director and choreographer MEGHAN ANDERSSEN; choreographers JASON FRANCO, KERI MINTY and LISA HO; and acting coaches CAMILLE LEGG and JENNIFER TONG.

This years final production called “TV OR NOT TV” will be presented three times each session in the Norman & Annette Rothstein Theatre, and feature an original script and broad repertoire of music from Broadway and movie musicals and the world of pop.

Auditions may be scheduled to assess talent and maturity.   Regrettably, not all applicants can be accepted, and final selections will be based on ability and commitment.   Full payment for the Camp is due immediately upon acceptance into the camp.

SCHOLARSHIPS are available through the generosity of the “Babe Oreck Memorial Fund”, “Phyliss & Irving Snider Foundation”, and others for those with financial need.

For further information about the camp, please contact the Jewish Community Centre at (604) 257-5111 or Perry Ehrlich at (604) 315-1850 or ehrlich@kzellaw.com

Reviews

“Gotta Sing! Gotta Dance! is an amazing program that builds confidence, imagination, leadership, industry connections, and friendships that last a lifetime! At GSGD, I gained skills that helped propel my career in the arts, as well as life skills that I still use every day. When I think about my favourite summer memories growing up, I think about my time spent at the JCC with the friends I made at Gotta Sing! Gotta Dance!”
– Kyra Leroux (Riverdale, Firefly Lane)

“Gotta Sing! Gotta Dance! provided me the foundation of being an actor and performer in the industry.  It solidified my love of the arts and gave me the confidence within myself to become an artist.  I met the best, most encouraging teachers and it was always a highlight for me in the summer.”

“I came away genuinely thrilled, not only impressed at the energy and talent on display but moved by the beauty that bursts forth when children and teens gain genuine purpose in life.”
