NEW Street Smarts     Teens ages 14-16
This program empowers and educates youth on how to safely navigate the Greater Vancouver on their own, to become more independent, and see the bigger world outside of the computer screen.

No phone, no problem!       C3706
It seems these days kids (and adults) cant live without there cell phones. Our first class is taking the kids out of their comfort zone and get them away from their phones. We will touch on things like how do you contact your parents/friends without your phone. We are even going to discuss how its become "the norm" for youth and teens to hang out with their friends and they all just sit on their own phones not actually interacting. Remember being a child and having to go with your parents somewhere? We never had phones to distract us, so what did we do instead?

Knowing your city
We will be exploring the Greater Vancouver area. Covering some more serious topics about where not to go alone or with your friends. What do you do if a stranger comes up to you, where to go if you find yourself somewhere you don't recognize and why staying calm is the most important thing you can do. Kathleen Muir, our Outreach coordinator, has been working in the Downtown east side for several years and will be leading the discussion.

Everything we have discussed will be put into action this day. We will be splitting up into groups and playing a form of amazing race where the groups will have to try and locate different area's of the city without relying on their cellphones or help from the adults (all groups will have an adult supervisor but they will be there to insure everyone is staying safe).
