Mel Brooks’ films are known for walking the tightrope between comedy and real-world commentary. We will explore how Brooks achieved this balance in his seismic hit The Producers, and controversies around his brazen Hitler-meets-hilarity approach. Adam Roberts will analyze the original 1967 film and the 2001 Broadway stage adaptation, considering the critical reception of each work, as he peeks behind the zeitgeist of this unlikely fable.
Sponsored in part by the JSA – Phyliss and Irving Snider Foundation Empowerment Series.
