Anne Roiphe
More than money, more than security, more than success, most of
us yearn for a good family. In her talk, renowned columnist,
novelist and social commentator, Anne Roiphe will read excerpts
from her most recent book, Married: A Fine Predicament as well as
1185 Park Avenue: A Memoir to illustrate her perspectives on the
much sought after 'good family'. The author of numerous books, Roiphe
lives in New York City and writes a biweekly column for the New
York Observer. Her books include The Pursuit of Happiness, Lovingkindness,
Fruitful: A Real Mother in the Modern World (short-listed for the
National Book Award in 1996) and the literary essays, For Rabbit
with Love and Squalor.
Musical
entertainment by The Saul Berson Quartet Saul Berson, saxophonist with Kim Darwin on accordion,
Tony Wilson on guitar, and Paul Blaney on bass.
Saul Berson's Quartet creates an eclectic mix of music incorporating
Middle-eastern overtones with a pinch of Piazzolla thrown in for
good measure! The Quartet's music " creates an intense
set of Arabian rhythms and. is a delirious mess of tango and
klezmer" (Cadence). The music "throbs with vitality"
(Coda). Saul Berson's Quartet's 1998 recording, From Here to Beyond,
was nominated in the "Best Jazz Album" category for the
1999 West Coast Music Awards.
