Dana Schlanger (School Director)
Dana is an arts administrator and musicologist with extensive international experience in arts management and education. Before becoming Director of the Dena Wosk School of Performing Arts in 1999, she has worked for the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and the Tel-Aviv University and was a freelance writer, publishing numerous articles about arts and culture. She enjoys her work at the school and attempts to constantly create new and exciting courses for our talented students!
Jana Berengel Jazz, Hip-Hop
Jana’s career holds an impressive list of credits. She has danced beside Michael Buble for the 2010 Olympic Closing Ceremonies, with Carmen Electra for MTV and taught Amanda Seyfried her dance moves for the movie "Red Riding Hood". Jana has appeared in various commercials as well as danced on the TV show "Psych". She has enjoyed performing at Tokyo Disneyland and with Princess Cruise Line and has toured throughout Canada, Israel, Dubai, Egypt and Afghanistan.
Jennifer Stewart Jazz, Tap
Jenny has danced across Canada and the US with companies like Dance Nouveau, Pro Troupe and Legends Alive! Jenny has choreographed for fitness pageants and fashion shows and assisted with the choreography for the World Track & Field Championships in Edmonton. Originally from Alberta, Jenny moved to Vancouver in 2002 to pursue a career as a performer. She has been seen in various live shows like Godspell, West Side Story, Music Man, Crazy for You, Mack & Mabel, Lost Vegas Live!, Fosse, Fosse, Fosse. Jenny has danced with the BC Lions' Felions Dance Team, the Urban Tap Squad, NY Jazz Co. and Eadoin Productions. Jenny is also a certified Yoga teacher.
Kirstyn König Acro, Ballet, Jazz
Kirstyn began dancing at the age of 10 in Calgary, Alberta. She has trained at The National Ballet School in Toronto, Alberta Ballet and other. She has a large repertoire including everything from ballet and Latin dance, to hip-hop and circus aerial arts. Kirstyn traveled throughout Europe and the Caribbean, as a featured dancer and circus aerial artist on Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. Now based in Vancouver, Kirstyn has worked and trained with various companies including MOVE: the company, Kill The Lights Crew and is an aerial artist with Inner Ring Circus/Vancouver Circus School. Most recently, Kirstyn can be seen dancing in Michael Buble’s “Haven’t Met You Yet” music video, an episode in Battlestar Galactica, Caprica, and the TV series Hellcats.
Catherine Andersen Ballet, Jazz
Catherine Andersen is professional dancer and choreographer in Vancouver, and has been teaching dance for 14 years. She began her training with ballet and jazz, and was awarded numerous scholarships and bursaries as a soloist. She holds a BFA in contemporary dance from Simon Fraser University and a Dance Diploma from Grant MacEwan College. Catherine recently performed on tour in Canada and the US with "Burn and Dodge" choreographed by Melanie Kuxdorf and has performed with dance companies such as Mascall Dance and UK-based sirenscrossing. Catherine is also a certified Pilates mat-work instructor, and one of the founding members of BehindOpenDoors arts collective.
Bobbie Wignall Jazz, Musical Theatre, Ballet
Bobbie moved to Vancouver in 2010 from the UK. She has been a performer since the age of three and has trained at Ann Holland School of Theatre Dance (UK) and Laine Theatre Arts in London, where she studied all aspects of dance, singing and acting. She is a fully certified dance teacher and has earned this recognition through the Imperial Society Teachers of Dance (I.S.T.D). Bobbie has taught and choreographed for numerous shows and stage productions for students aged 3 and up. In the past she has been a headline vocalist for many summer season theatrical shows in the UK and then performed on some of the most luxurious Princess cruise lines,headlining as lead vocalist in their major Broadway style shows.
Andy Cohen Tap, Drama
Andy is a singer, actor, dancer, writer, director, producer and choreographer. He has studied at the Guildhall School for Music and Drama in London, England, and graduated the BFA Acting program at UBC. He has worked for VACT, Skycorner, Pipedream, Homeshark, Gateway, URP, Applause!, and TUTS for which he won an Ovation Award. In 2010, Andrew performed at BC Place, tapping in the Opening Ceremonies and as a featured solo singer in the Closing Ceremonies of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Andrew has also helped choreograph productions for Gateway, Magee, TUTS, Keep The Pride Alive Canada Day Celebration, and Gotta Sing! Gotta Dance!
Erica McFarlane Hip Hop
Erica Gwyn McFarlane started her dance training at The Dance Connection. While in Victoria for school, she directed the UVic Dance Co., and founded The Industry Dance Co., a hip hop performance troupe. Erica taught dance at Camp Danbee, an all-girls sports camp in Massachusetts, and held the position of Dance Director for the summer. She graduated from UVic’s ‘Human and Social Development’ program in 2006 and started two dance programs for students with special needs. Dance career highlights include: dancing on the BC Lions’ ‘Felions’ dance team, dancing in a Bollywood music video, and opening for ‘America’s Best Dance Crew’ Season 2 Champions.
Rachel Claman (RAHEL) - Belly Dance
Rahel fell in love with Bellydance in 2003 and has been teaching and performing this beautiful, ancient art form ever since. Rahel's joyful, engaging stage presence and fluid, serpentine control make her a highly sought after performer/instructor. Although trained primarily in Raks Sharqi under the guidance of her mentor Narmaya, Rahel takes influence and inspiration from a number of styles and teachers. Rahel danced for several years in Ninawa Eastern Magic Dance Company and Banat Dallah Troupe. Her film credits include Hellcats, and the award winning short film "Imago".
