the Jewish Community Centre of Greater Vancouver is again pleased to offer
COST PER SESSION: Members $600 / Non-Members $700
Deadline for applications: April 1, 2013
For the past eighteen summers, Gotta Sing! Gotta Dance! has attracted hundreds of enthusiastic and talented participants – many of whom have gone on to successful careers in the performing arts – from throughout British Columbia and as far away as Whitehorse, Edmonton, Regina, Yorkton, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, California, Alabama, Colorado, Virginia, Texas, Austria, and Israel.
The director and creator of the program is PERRY EHRLICH, who received an Ovation Award and the Canadian Bar Association’s Community Service Award (acknowledging his tireless dedication to working with children and musical theatre). Perry, a composer, pianist, teacher, arranger, producer, adjudicator, writer, and talent coordinator, also directs ShowStoppers, the popular performance troupe. Check out www.theimpresario.ca.
Perry has once again assembled an impressive Faculty of professional instructors including musical director WENDY BROSS STUART ("Annie Get Your Gun", "Annie", and "Singing in the Rain" for Theatre Under the Stars); Jessie award-winning director CHRIS McGREGOR ("Fiddler on the Roof" and "The Sound of Music" for Richmond Gateway); choreographers ISABELLE MAHEUX (Opening Ceremonies of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics), LAURA KREWSKI ("Chicago" at Mayfield Dinner Theatre and "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" at the Arts Club Theatre), and DIANA COATSWORTH ("Wanderlust" at the Stratford Festival and "The 39 Steps" at the Arts Club Theatre); musical director LONNIE DELISLE (The Marcus Mosely Chorale); and JAY HAVENS (set construction and costume co-ordination).
Peter Birnie former theatre critic for the Vancouver Sun commented that the Faculty members "are all teaching in a carefully choreographed nesting of studies that takes place all over the JCC and culminates in a big, brassy show. I try to attend every year, and always come away just as thrilled as the parents and families with the level of talent on display. It is about the joy that comes from singing your lungs out and dancing your hooves off."
Final productions in the ROTHSTEIN THEATRE (this year called "Miss Vancouver"), will feature an original script and broad repertoire of music from Broadway and movie musicals.
SCHOLARSHIPS are available through the generosity of the "Babe Oreck Memorial Fund", "Phyliss & Irving Snider Foundation", and others for those with financial need.
