10th Annual Young Authors' Tea

SUNDAY, Nov. 27

1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Calling all athletes, aspiring Olympians, readers, writers, and those with a great imagination! Come and join us in a celebration of literature and sport in a Jewish context.

This year, the Jewish Community Centre of Greater Vancouver is the proud host of the 2006 JCC Maccabi Games. The Olympics style event will take place August 13-18, 2006, and will involve over 1800 Jewish athletes and coaches from the United States, Europe, South America, Australia, and of course, ISRAEL! Information about the JCC Maccabi Games is available online: www.vancouvermaccabi.org

In preparation for this exhilarating event, we chose SPORTS as the theme. Children in grades 3-5 are invited to share their literary creations. The topics include:

My Most Memorable / Unusual Moment in Sports
If I Could Invent a Maccabi Sport, it would be…
My Favourite Jewish Sports Hero
Imagine Me … A Sports Hero!

All submissions will be printed and the participants will be coached on public speaking skills. This event will allow young children to share their creative writing with their friends, family and the general public. There will be a draw for door prizes and, if necessary, for the names of those young authors who will read aloud. Only those who arrive on time and sign in will be eligible for the draw. Deadline for submissions and advance book orders is Thursday, November 10 at 5 pm.

During the Tea, participants will be introduced to local Maccabi athletes, watch a video of previous JCC Maccabi games, and have the opportunity to meet other young families.

Young authors gather at 1:00 pm sharp. Audience members are welcome to pick up their pre-ordered Young Authors' Tea books or browse in the book festival bookstore.
The structured presentation will begin at 1:30 pm.
Admission is free. Everyone is welcome.
