Join
the Association for Canadian Jewish Studies (ACJS) for a full day of thought-provoking
lectures and seminars fueled by regular infusions of kosher food, and
culminating in an evening of poetry and prose.
On
Sunday, June 1 /08
we will present a unique meld of the academy and the community, when Canadian
Jewish studies scholars and Jewish professionals will discuss their diverse
and fascinating research and experiences.
We will hear
from the University of Ottawa's Pierre Anctil who translates
Montreal Yiddish writers into French.
Eric
Vernon of the Ottawa branch of Canadian Jewish Congress will
update us on political challenges facing Canada's Jews.
For teachers
and other Jewish educators, Seymour Epstein, Director
of the Board of Jewish Education in Toronto, will explore the trends and
opportunities emerging in the field.
Other topics
include:
• Jews in B.C.
• Canadian Jewish musical traditions
• Yiddish in Canada (session conducted in Yiddish)
• Jewish genealogy
There will
also be special tours of the Jewish Museum and Archives.
In the evening,
we will have readings by:
